The Minister for Justice and Constitution Affairs, the honorable Norbert Mao, has urged educationists to prioritize skill development among learners as a vital component of nation-building.

He made this call while addressing students and parents at Namilyango Boys College during the school’s commemoration of its 122nd anniversary in Mukono.

“We talk a lot about adding value to coffee, cotton and tea but the truth is that the most important value addition should be to the human being,“ Said Mao.

He emphasized that all the developed nations are what they are today because they put much focus of human skill development.

He underscored that the prosperity of developed nations today is largely attributable to their prioritization of human skill development.

“Japan does not have natural resources, they don’t have oil they don’t have copper, they don’t have even the most fertile soils but they have excellent human capital,” he said

Namilyango College, situated in Mukono District within Uganda’s Central Region, stands as a distinguished boys-only boarding secondary school renowned for its rich history, academic prowess, and notable achievements in sports.

Established in 1902 by the Catholic Mill Hill Fathers, it holds the distinction of being Uganda’s oldest secondary school and continues to uphold a reputation of excellence within the country.

The 122 years celebrations came with the commissioning of a new building hostel by the prime minister of Uganda Hon. Robbina Nabbanja.

According to Constantine Mpuuga, the head teacher of the college, the hostel was constructed through contributions made by the parents.

“This building can host over 480 students and it has been constructed by none other the money from our dear the parents, “ Mpuuga revealed.

In a message to the college delivered by the Honourable Norbert Mao, Prime Minister of Uganda, Honorable Robina Nabbanja assured the institution of the government’s commitment to support its development programs.
